Värnamo has been affected by a total outbreak of illness ahead of the weekend's match against Gais. Eight players were absent on Wednesday – all of them bedridden with fever, sore throat and cough.
The situation is thus anything but optimal for the Småland club, which after 17 rounds has only managed to collect seven points and is hopelessly last in the table.
Värnamo chose to cancel the regular Wednesday training.
The players who are away are at home with a slight sore throat and cough. To avoid increasing the spread, we decided to have an individual training day for the players who are healthy. The dressing room, which can be a possible source of infection, was sanitized during the morning, says Dale Reese, medical coordinator, to Värnamo News.
Exactly which players have been affected, the club does not want to disclose, and where the infection comes from is still unclear.
Reese emphasizes that no players will be allowed to return to training until they have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours. The plan is for the healthy players to be back on the pitch on Thursday.
