53-year-old Billborn joined IFK Gothenburg in the summer of 2024. During his first six months at the club, he saved Blåvitt from relegation play-offs in the final round.
The 2025 season went even better and the club ended up in a surprising fourth place in the table.
Heavy loss in the European game
However, this year's season has been weak and the team is in 13th place in the Allsvenskan table, with only 13 points recorded.
At the same time, the team is in a Conference League qualifying tie where they lost the first leg at home against Estonian side Levadia Tallinn 2-1 last week.
"He (Billborn) came to Blåvitt in a very challenging situation two years ago. Under Stefan's leadership, the team secured the Allsvenskan contract and then the fourth place that led to IFK's first European games in six years. We wish him good luck in the future," Jesper Jansson said to the club's website.
“We can turn this around”
Assistant coach Joachim Björklund will now take over as head coach, Blåvitt announces.
"I take on the task with humility but also with a strong belief that we can turn this around. We have a squad of players with great potential and I am convinced that together we can create the energy and clarity that is required. Now it is about rolling up our sleeves and performing in a way that our supporters can be proud of," says Björklund.
In addition to IFK Göteborg, Stefan Billborn has coached Brommapojkarna and Hammarby in Sweden and Sarpsborg in Norway. Joachim Björklund has a solid playing career behind him and was a regular centre-back in Sweden's bronze medal team at the 1994 World Cup.
