According to Aftonbladet, this is the first time since autumn 2015 that IFK Göteborg have won five straight matches in the Swedish league.
Noah Tolf's left-footed strike in the ninth minute was the only goal of the match.
"I was just thinking of hitting it with the inside of my ankle into the far corner. If it goes in, it goes in - and it did. Great," Tolf told TV4 about the goal.
Sam Larsson had the chance to extend the lead from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but shot over the bar.
The three points took IFK Göteborg level with Västerås on 35 points, putting them in the fight for fourth place. They are two points behind fourth-placed Elfsborg, who have played one more match.
