It was last spring that Arias said that midfielder Marta Cox was fat. This after Cox, now a pro in Turkish Fenerbahce, had been critical of the conditions for female football players in Panama.
The Ethics Committee of the International Football Federation (Fifa) has now handed out the suspension, which applies until July 14th this summer.
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Arias apologizes and writes that he is aware of his serious mistake.
"I used very unfortunate language that I should never have used under any circumstances", he writes.
