My brother was a 57-year-old man who suffered from several diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. He had a serious visual impairment – and they claim that he was a sniper? It's pure fabrication, says Mohammed Abu Salmiya, chief of Shifa hospital in Gaza, who received his brother's and sister-in-law's dead bodies on Saturday.

The Israeli military (IDF) confirms on Sunday that they have killed Majed Abu Salmiya and describe him as one of Hamas' snipers. He is also said to have prepared a terror attack against IDF's troops in Gaza.

This is firmly denied by his brother Mohammed Abu Salmiya, who believes that the IDF is trying to "justify the killing of civilians".

Israel's expanded offensive against Gaza City, which began on Monday, aims to "destroy Hamas' military infrastructure". During the night to Saturday, 90 people are reported to have been killed, most of them in Gaza City. On Sunday, at least six people have been killed in attacks at dawn, according to Gaza's Hamas-controlled civil defense.
