Cross-country skiing star Ida Dahl was at the top of her game during the 2022-23 season, when she won the long-distance cup. The following season was ruined by injuries and it was during the spring of last year that she suffered from exhaustion depression, which has made it impossible for her to compete at all this winter.
"The 24/25 season is approaching its end and not in my wildest imagination could I have foreseen what hell this year would be", she writes on Instagram.
"It has been a year marked by fear, anxiety, tears, and a completely debilitating fatigue."
She writes that she has many times broken down in tears of fear when her legs wouldn't carry her, her heart was racing, she got dizzy, a paralyzing fatigue and the feeling of "someone sitting on my chest".
"The number of times I've thought and accepted that I'm going to die, I don't want to know."
Dahl, 29, writes that the road back is long and unpredictable.
"What awaits ahead, only time will tell", she writes.
Several cross-country skiing colleagues have commented on the post with heart emojis and comments.
"Still lots of strength hugs to you Ida", writes Ebba Andersson.
