Monday's shooting death of a 26-year-old Colombian man in the state of Maine has sparked fresh criticism of US immigration police - whose employees also shot and killed a Mexican man in Houston a few days earlier.
However, some exceptions can be made if, for example, there is an arrest warrant or in cooperation with other authorities, a source says.
The two shootings come amid President Donald Trump's administration's crackdown on immigration in the United States. At least nine people have been killed in the crackdown so far. Over five days in late June, ICE arrested more than 10,000 people.
