"We share the view that workplaces should be sober and drug-free, but we have slightly different views on the path to getting there. We do not think that drug tests should be used before employment," says Daniel Weglin, central ombudsman at the Swedish Trade Employees' Union, to Ekot.
The Swedish Trade Employees' Union now sees the requirement as a violation of privacy. The union's lawyer, Cecilia Arklid, compares it with the public sector, where drug tests are not permitted.
"It is sensitive from a privacy perspective. Drug tests are done in different ways, but it is a physical intervention, and if you look at the public sector, it is not allowed," she says.
