The UN demand came on Wednesday, with the IAEA specifically demanding that it inspect locations where highly enriched uranium may be stored, according to sources with access to secret documents.
In a previous report, the IAEA has stated that continuity in monitoring the country's nuclear energy program has been lost. This makes it difficult to get an overview of the storage, especially in the facilities that were attacked in the war with Israel in June, when the US attacked suspected facilities.
According to the IAEA, Iran had about 440.9 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent as of June 13. Uranium must be enriched to 90 percent to be used in nuclear weapons. But Iran's previous access to such a quantity of uranium raises serious concerns, the UN atomic energy agency notes in connection with the inspection requirement.
