It was after the qualifying for Qatar's GP last week that the controversy began.
After an incident, the duo was called into the meeting room by the judges, after Russell accused Verstappen of driving unnecessarily slowly, thereby hindering the Mercedes driver.
Then the Dutchman went out to the media and aired his thoughts about Russell.
He always tries to be so humble when the cameras are on, but when you're in there with him, he becomes a completely different person. I can't stand it, and to be honest, it's better if he just gets lost. I don't want to be involved in this, he said to Dutch TV after the meeting.
"A bit ironic"
Since then, Verstappen has refused to back down from his criticism, and now George Russell has revealed that the world champion threatened to crash into him deliberately during the subsequent race.
He said he would deliberately do everything he could to crash into me and that he would put me into the wall headfirst, says Russell.
"Can't handle setbacks"
Russell continues his criticism, and means that it's not just him who has been affected by the Dutchman's outburst.
I'm not going to sit here and just accept it. For years, people have been bullied by Max now. You may not be able to question his ability on the track, but he can't handle setbacks. As soon as something doesn't go his way, he has an outburst.
The season's final GP is run in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
