A day later, Dahl was standing on the training pitch in Marbella and realized that in life as a professional footballer, anything can happen. When Emil Krafth cancelled, the door simultaneously opened for the 21-year-old.
Not what I thought a day ago, but it's very fun, he says.
Dahl left Djurgården last summer. In the 2-3 loss to Bologna - the one that cost Juric his job - he came on with half an hour left and cleared the way for his league debut.
On the way home from the Olympic Stadium came the next positive experience.
I was very happy to have made my debut and had just gotten home when the phone rang. I saw that it was Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Dahl didn't do like Anthony Elanga. He took the call. And immediately.
I thought it was best to answer. Jon said he had seen that I made my debut and then said he wanted to call me up to the national team gathering.
"No idea"
Then Dahl had shortly before heard coach Ivan Juric say goodbye.
He gathered us in the dressing room and said he was no longer our coach.
Samuel Dahl lives in uncertainty about who will next have a decisive influence over his career.
I'm unaware. We'll see what happens. I have no idea.
Whoever it is will be Dahl's third coach in a few months. Juric took over in September after Daniele De Rossi.
It's about showing off for yet another coach. I try every day and I've done that since I came. I want to play like everyone else. On Sunday, the chance finally came.
I hope for a few more minutes when I get home.
Tough time in Rome
Samuel Dahl is open about having had a tough time in the eternal city, both on and off the pitch.
He is slowly learning a new language and a different culture.
It's so much more when you change environment. It's not just about football, where the competition is tough. I have to learn the language. Being able to have a normal conversation and create relationships with teammates becomes easier if we can communicate with each other.
I'm studying Italian and will try to learn it as fast as possible, says Samuel Dahl.
