Hardman, 27, most recently played in the AHL with the Utica Comets and has played 39 games in the NHL with Chicago and New Jersey during his career.
"Mike will be important for us in the physical game and has a player profile we felt we needed to add," says Johan Hult, sports director at HV71, according to a press release.
Hardman replaces Noah Philp, who, just over a month after being introduced by HV71, had a change of heart and instead announced that he was ending his career.
"I sincerely apologize to HV71 and everyone involved regarding the timing of my decision," Philp said after his shock decision.
