Thommy Carlson's childhood home is located on Järvberget, a small village in the northern part of Örnsköldsvik municipality.
We went up at the beginning of last week to hunt, and we did that until Saturday when it started raining in the evening, he says.
The rain continued, in combination with a thunderstorm that rolled in.
During the night, it poured down, it thundered and rained so much that you thought the house would almost be crushed.
He tells us that a hunting companion's rain gauge was filled to 100 millimeters early in the night.
Then it continued to rain for five to six hours, so we have gotten enormous amounts of water.
”Will take time”
On Sunday, they discovered that the road to Järvberget had largely disappeared, and been replaced by what in some places looks like a larger stream.
It has been washed away for several hundred meters.
On Monday morning, Carlson has been in contact with a contractor to temporarily make some kind of temporary repair so that the approximately 20 people who are stuck on Järvberget can get out of there.
In the best case, they may be able to make some kind of evacuation route later this day. But it's in the best case, it will take a long time before they have repaired the road so it's passable, he says.
Never experienced anything like it
Järvberget is located about eight miles from the coast and is, according to Thommy Carlson, highly elevated. In addition to the hunting team, there are some others who have summer homes in the village.
It's not a low-lying area that collects water, but we live on a hillside, you could say. We are probably one of the highest villages in Övik's municipality, in terms of elevation.
Thommy Carlson emphasizes that there is no great danger for the isolated.
We have food, we have electricity, we have water, and now we have fairly good weather too. But it's a hassle. There are several people here now who are stuck and were supposed to work today.
Thommy Carlson says that he has never experienced any similar weather.
Of course, you have experienced heavy rain. But this type of downpour... we said within the team that this is the new times, this is probably what we can expect.
