It's time for "Summer Vacation" on SVT and the hunt for the mysterious Summer Shadow can begin. New for this year is that the shadow has gone on a journey and can be in Sweden. At the same time, the children in the audience get a challenge.

If the viewers put away their screens, come up with a million other things that are fun to do and then report it to "Sommarlov", a reward is promised: the host Malin Olsson will eat a grasshopper. Moreover, there will be a party and candy rain.

I'm not super excited. I hate insects and small crawlers. I think it's disgusting, says Malin Olsson.

Creating an idea bank

But the challenge thinks she's fun. The activities reported can be simple things like taking the neighbor's dog out, inviting the family to breakfast, or learning to play chess. In that way, the viewers build an idea bank together, where they tip each other off about fun things to do.

I think we can all agree that we can use our screens less, children and adults. I see this as a challenge for myself too, to reduce my screen time, says Ellen Särnevång, who is back as a host this summer.

Challenges are one of the summer's themes. The new host Haider el Timimi will take it to his heart and try to learn completely new things, such as riding, singing opera, and skateboarding. The toughest challenge is high diving.

I'm standing there at three meters high and I think: I have to do it for the kids' sake. But at the same time, it was hard.

Was headhunted

He was headhunted to "Sommarlov" after, among other things, having worked with "Din gata" on P3, and it's a mission he's proud of. It's a big responsibility, he thinks, because he knows that the hosts become role models for the children.

He still remembers when he went to the recreational center on summers and the staff rolled in a big TV every morning, when it was time for "Sommarlov".

The toughest challenge stands shadow hunter Adrian Alebo Andersson before. He will follow the Summer Shadow's clues around the country to, hopefully, finally be able to catch it to the viewers.

It has an incredible aura. When you have a 240 centimeter long, cat-like figure in front of your eyes, then you don't feel so big in your shoes.
