Balázs Hankó and Miklós Seszták were ministers under former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Both are under investigation for corruption involving tens of millions of kronor. The cases are the first to be brought against the former Orbán government since the change of power this spring.
The parliament, where the new ruling party Tisza has a supermajority, voted clearly to lift their immunity. Orbán's party Fidesz boycotted the vote.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar's immunity is also being lifted. He is suspected of stealing a phone from a man who filmed him at a nightclub in 2024, and is said to have thrown the phone into the Danube. Magyar himself requested the lifting and accuses the opposition of trying to divert attention from the corruption cases.
