Trees have been uprooted, roads have been flooded. Flights, trains and ferries are being cancelled, and major problems are being reported on the roads. A truck driver died when a branch went through the windscreen. Two more people have died, one in France and one in Spain.

A total of 900,000 customers lost power when the storm hit. By Friday morning, half had their power restored. According to French electricity distributor Enedis, around 3,000 people are working on reconnecting power.

The floods are complicating repair work because fields are waterlogged and some roads are blocked, Enedis's crisis manager Hervé Champenois said on Thursday.
