Iran ordered late in May Afghans without valid documents to leave the country by Sunday, July 6.
Only this year, over 1.4 million people "have returned or been forced to return to Afghanistan", announces the UN's refugee agency UNHCR.
Afghanistan has already been struggling since before with the integration of Afghans who have returned from Pakistan and Iran since 2023.
The UN has warned that the influx of people can further destabilize the country which is already struggling with widespread poverty, unemployment and difficulties related to climate change, and has urged countries not to force Afghans to return.
