Around 400 storks have been found dead along a river near the Spanish capital Madrid, AFP reports.
According to the Independent newspaper, Spanish authorities have confirmed that there is a serious outbreak of bird flu in the region.
Even in Sweden, an aggressive form of bird flu has spread during the autumn and winter, Birdlife Sweden warned earlier in December.
