Skyttberg says it has been a special and hectic evening, which has offered entertainment in the form of both a solar eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower.
"It was really fun to see that there were so many people interested. A lot of people came and I and those of us who were there thought it was really fun," she says.
The festive atmosphere in Observatorielund was, however, dampened by cloud cover when the solar eclipse occurred.
“Many disappointed”
It is clear that many were disappointed that you couldn't see everything, of course. Which is completely understandable, says Signe Skyttberg and emphasizes:
But the vast majority were still happy and positive that they could see anything at all.
A sign of the great public interest in the celestial phenomenon was that solar eclipse glasses, which are needed to look at the sun without damaging the eyes, were sold out in many places in Sweden. Astronomical Youth Stockholm District lent some out in Observatorielunden on Wednesday evening.
“Historic place”
Several of those who had gathered also used all kinds of more or less improvised protection during the solar eclipse - such as welding goggles.
When asked why Observatorielunden was chosen as the viewing point, Skyttberg replies:
Observatorielunden is where Stockholm's old observatory is located and also where we have our office. So it's quite a historic place that is important to us.
