The whale, nicknamed "Timmy" by German media, has been fighting for survival and has captured the country's attention since it stranded on a sandbar near Lübeck at the end of March.
Several times, the whale, which is just over ten meters long, has managed to break free, only to get stuck again on new sandbanks. Many rescue efforts to free the whale, including digging channels, have failed, and its health has worsened.
Now, thanks to funding from two entrepreneurs, "Timmy" has been pulled into a specially built barge with a water-filled hold. The plan is to transport the whale to the North Sea, where it will be released.
