Recently, they attended their first gala premiere as film actors and were horrified when they saw Alex Schulman in the audience - a person with “incredibly high opinion capital”, as they said in their podcast.
In the podcasts we also address more everyday things. The reason it still resonates with eleven-year-olds is that we do it with our jargon and humor, says Victor Beer.
It's been almost 15 years since brothers Victor Beer and Emil Ejdemo Beer, along with their cousin Joel Adolphson, uploaded their first YouTube clip. They were 17 and 19, respectively, escaping a family dinner. Now they're over 30, have more than a million YouTube followers, and their own production company, which, including them, employs twelve people full-time.
It hasn't happened overnight. We've let the company grow very slowly, we've met people we clicked with, and now we're a wonderful bunch with the same sense of humor, says Victor Beer.
"Childish"
They make three YouTube clips and two podcast episodes a week, and have written an SVT series and best-selling children's books.
I don't care if people say we have childish humor. Apparently we're doing something right, and I think that's why we get the kids with us. They notice that it's not aimed to fit into a protected little bubble. It's jokes with a little edge, says Joel Adolphson.
The idea to adapt "The Villain of Villains" came from director Alain Darborg. They themselves thought the story was far too twisted. However, Darborg and screenwriter Jessika Jankert insisted on bringing "a new emotional depth."
It's nonsense and silliness too, and it comes from us. Alain and Jessika brought a form of emotional depth, and we think that's really scary - we're a little afraid of it. Our sketches are mostly fun, admits Victor Beer, who plays the role of the giant baby Pelle-Buster.
Rebellious
Billie Colliander plays his older sister, the rebellious Stephanie who wants to follow in her late superhero mother's footsteps but fails when she applies to Hero School and starts at Villain School instead.
The basic story is simple - dare to trust yourself and your own power. It's all driven by Harry Potter, which the trio grew up with - more specifically Krister Henriksson's reading on cassette tape.
When my wife read our book, she laughed a lot, but when she saw the film, there were even tears, says Emil Ejdemo Beer.
