"My mother was arrested last Wednesday night when she was home alone," Mehraveh Khandan wrote on Instagram.
Human rights lawyer Sotoudeh was previously imprisoned for defending a woman who was arrested for demonstrating against the mandatory headscarf in Iran in 2018. In 2019 she was sentenced to 12 years in prison for "encouraging corruption and debauchery," but was released in 2021.
Sotoudeh was awarded, among other things, the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize in 2012 for her human rights work and the Right Livelihood Prize in 2020.
