”It is frustrating to be excluded from one of the season's most important competitions for reasons beyond my control, especially after such positive results”, writes Calderano, who is also a Portuguese citizen, on his website.

According to the French L'Equipe, the rejection is due to Calderano traveling to Cuba in 2023. In the country, the 29-year-old qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, where he lost to Truls Möregårdh in the semifinal a year later.

”I followed the same protocol as all my previous trips to the USA, and used my Portuguese passport. When I was informed of the situation, I mobilized my entire team to obtain an emergency visa, but unfortunately there was not enough time”, writes Calderano.

It has become more difficult to obtain an entry visa to the USA since the country's president Donald Trump introduced new rules in early June. Among other things, he has given an entry ban for citizens from twelve countries and restrictions for an additional seven countries, one of which is Cuba.

The entire Swedish national team has traveled to the USA for the competition in Las Vegas. The main tournament begins on Sunday evening Swedish time.
