The Swede was taken to the mat and fell into an early disadvantage in the bronze-medal match in Tirana, Albania.
But the 21-year-old would come back.
With 2 minutes 24 seconds left, it was Baff's turn to attack, and he quickly secured the point that made it 1–1, setting up an exciting finish to the medal match against Gutu.
Baff secured the European Championship bronze with only 12 seconds remaining in the first senior championship of his career.
The wrestler from Limhamn had a tough start to the championship when he was drawn directly against reigning European and World champion Malchas Amojan of Armenia. When Amojan reached the final, Hugo Baff had to go through the repechage.
