The Iranian Football Association has called football star Ramin Razaeian to an inquiry, writes the domestic news agency Tasnim. According to the news agency, it is the ethics committee that has made the decision.
The reason is that he, before a match, hugged a female supporter. It has been illegal since 1979 according to Islamic law for a man and a woman to have physical contact, as long as they are not close relatives.
The incident occurred before a match between Razaeian's club team Esteghlal and Chadormalu in the Iranian league.
The Iranian Football Association has not yet commented on the call.
The defender has 65 international caps for Iran, and has played European football in both Turkey and Belgium.
