In a press release, the manufacturer, Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, says one million prescriptions were reached three months after the January 5 launch and that uptake has since accelerated further.
According to the company, it is “one of the strongest U.S. pharmaceutical launches measured in volume to date.”
Analyst Søren Løntoft Hansen from AL Sydbank, who follows developments within Novo Nordisk, shares the company's assessment of the success:
Measured in terms of the number of prescriptions, it is in a league of its own, he tells the Danish news agency Ritzau.
During the first quarter of this year, Wegovy pills sold for the equivalent of 3.3 billion Swedish kronor.
