The United States was likely involved in attacks on three fishing boats off the coast of Ecuador that led to the disappearance of at least eight people, Human Rights Watch said in a report.

The attacks reportedly occurred between January and March, when the US escalated its controversial bombing of boats allegedly transporting drugs north from Latin America.

At least 215 people have been killed in the attacks. Human Rights Watch and other human rights groups are strongly critical, as the attacks have targeted civilians who do not pose an immediate threat to the United States.
