In times of crisis or war, Swedes should still be able to call, text, and surf the internet - even if their own mobile network is down.

If the government decides to increase preparedness, operators will be able to activate so-called national roaming. This means that anyone can use the network, regardless of which operator they are a customer of. So if one network stops working, users can switch to another instead.

"Being able to call, send text messages and quickly look up information is particularly important during times of heightened alert," says Minister of Civil Service Erik Slottner (KD) in a press release.

However, as a user, you need to make certain settings on your phone to be able to choose a different network. A guide on how to do this will be published on the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency's website.
