The dreaded heat has taken hold at the Australian Open in Melbourne, and tennis greats are resorting to every trick to stay cool as temperatures soar toward 40 degrees Celsius.

Although several matches at the main venues have been brought forward to avoid the worst of the heat, many of the tennis stars still appear to be suffering. Ice packs, wet towels and lots of water are what many of the players are resorting to cool down.

However, if the heat becomes unbearable, the tournament's head referee may suspend play or order additional fluid breaks in extreme weather according to Australian Open rules.
