A study conducted by researchers at Linnaeus University and the University of Skövde shows that bite injuries account for half of the cases, while the rest were mainly fall injuries.
"All dogs can bite, but they just as often cause injuries by pushing, knocking over or pulling people over," says Andreas Svensson, associate professor of evolutionary ecology at Linnaeus University, in a press release.
Bite injuries are more common among men and younger people, while fall injuries primarily affect the elderly and women.
In cases where infants were injured by dogs, it almost always occurred indoors, which suggests that it is not enough for adults to be nearby - supervision must be active.
