Rocket Shrapnel Hits Kindergarten and Medical Complex in Riyadh as Houthi Attacks Escalate

Yemen’s Houthi movement has attacked Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, again after days of attacks. Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense says shrapnel hit a kindergarten and a medical complex.

The Houthi movement claims that several targets in Saudi Arabia have been attacked as the conflict escalates.

Several explosions were heard in Riyadh on Thursday morning, AFP journalists on the scene report.

According to Saudi authorities, a rocket was also shot down in a separate attack.

"Fragments of a rocket fell in Riyadh after a ballistic missile was intercepted," the civil defense authority wrote on X. There were no reports of injuries.

The Iran-backed Houthi movement’s spokesman, Yahya Saree, said a military air base in Khamis Mushait and an airport in Najran were also attacked, AFP reports.

Saudi Arabia is in conflict with the Yemeni Houthi movement, which said earlier on Thursday morning that it had attacked Riyadh’s main airport again.

The Iran-backed Shiite militia attacked King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Wednesday, as well as an international airport in Abha. The attacks killed three people.

In southwestern Yemen, fighting is raging between Houthi forces and forces loyal to the country’s internationally recognized government, which is supported by Saudi Arabia.
