Saudi Arabia has repeatedly asked the United States for help against the Houthi movement. A representative of the movement said in an interview with AFP that it would attack American targets in the region if the United States intervened and tried to help Saudi Arabia.
The Houthi movement took control of the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait earlier in September.
The movement is part of Iran's militant Islamist network with Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, united by their opposition to Israel.
