The Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi, who has held the position since August 2024, is said to have been killed on Thursday along with several other ministers in the Houthi-controlled government.

"We promise God, our dear Yemeni people and the families of the martyrs and the wounded that we will avenge", says the chairman of the movement's highest political leadership in a statement on Telegram.

The Israeli military IDF announced on Thursday that it had struck "with precision" against a military target in the capital region.

The Houthi movement has fired rockets and drones at Israel and ships in the Red Sea for nearly two years. According to the movement, this is done in solidarity with the Palestinians in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

Israel has responded by attacking targets in Yemen on several occasions. In recent weeks, it has attacked energy infrastructure, military targets and the presidential palace in central Sanaa.
