The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to approve the impeachment charges on Monday, which include bribery, corruption, extortion and an alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Sara Duterte announced in February that she would run for president in the 2028 elections. Last year, she was the subject of another impeachment trial in the Senate on charges of death threats and corruption. However, that trial was halted by the country's Supreme Court on procedural grounds.

Sara Duterte has been in an open feud with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in recent years. She has also supported her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is accused of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. The case concerns alleged ordered killings in connection with an anti-drug campaign.
