The alarm came at around 9 a.m. on Friday. The police told broadcaster SWR that they believed multiple perpetrators and hostages were inside the bank.

The city center was cordoned off, but by 3 p.m. the danger was over after the police searched the bank without finding any perpetrators - however, a bank employee and the driver of a cash-in-transit van were locked inside. No one was injured during the robbery, according to German police.

Sinzig has around 17,000 inhabitants and is located approximately 20 kilometers from Bonn.
