The remains of 15 dead Palestinians have been returned to the Gaza Strip, after Israel confirmed that the body handed over from Gaza on Friday belonged to an Israeli hostage.

Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis has received 15 bodies of dead Palestinians, they announced on Saturday morning.

Hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed that the remains returned late Friday had been identified as Israeli Lior Rudaeff.

Rudaeff, 61, was killed in the Nir Yitzhak kibbutz during the October 7, 2023 attack and was taken dead to the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli media. There, his body was held by the terrorist movement Islamic Jihad.

Five dead hostages now remain in Gaza – four Israelis and one Thai. Under the current ceasefire agreement, all bodies are to be returned. In exchange, Israel will hand over 15 dead Palestinians for each hostage returned.

According to the Saudi television channel al-Hadath, Hamas members and representatives of the Red Cross are searching for another dead hostage in Gaza on Saturday, in Rafah in the southern part of the area.
