Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong sentenced to 10 more years in prison

Activist Joshua Wong, a prominent figure in Hong Kong's democracy movement, has been sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison, the court announced on Thursday.

Wong is now being convicted of colluding with foreign forces. He is already serving a multi-year prison sentence for subversive activities and was due to be released next year.

According to the charges, Wong is alleged to have urged foreign countries, individuals or institutions in 2020 to “impose sanctions or blockades” against Hong Kong and China. He pleaded guilty in September this year, which often means a lighter sentence, according to the AP.

The case has been heavily criticized by human rights organizations, which say it is aimed at keeping Wong behind bars for as long as possible.
