Simon Holmström played his best game of the season when he scored the decisive goal in a 4–3 win for the New York Islanders against Minnesota in tonight's NHL game.

Two goals and an assist meant that Holmström was involved in all but one of the Islanders' goals when the team visited Minnesota on Sunday night.

Holmström had scored three points once before (a goal and two assists against Anaheim in December), but his two goals against Minnesota gave him his first game of the season with more than one goal.

The first came a minute and a half into the second period. With a wrist shot from the middle of the offensive zone, Holmström sent the puck in behind an obscured Filip Gustavsson to make it 2–2.

Holmström's second goal came when the Islanders needed it most. 1:34 into overtime, the 24-year-old made it 4-3 with a backhand shot from close range. In between, he had also set up Casey Cizikas' 3-3 equalizer.
