“It is sad to have to lay off talented employees, but the downsizing is necessary,” says Karolina Svensson, business area manager at Holmen, to VK.
The market for wood products is the worst it has been in several decades, and competition for raw materials remains fierce, Holmen says.
Production of sawn timber now needs to be reduced further.
The plan is to close the sawmill in Kroksjön, while retaining some further processing using raw materials from another sawmill.
“We are now starting negotiations on a new organization that will enable Kroksjön to become an efficient wood products processing facility,” says Svensson.
The transition in Kroksjön is expected to be completed on March 1.
