Matthew Modine tells on X about how a meeting with Val Kilmer at the Hollywood restaurant The Source changed his life. The actor was tipped off to audition for the war film "Full metal jacket", which was to become his big breakthrough.
"RIP Val Kilmer. If it hadn't been for us coincidentally meeting at The Source in 1985, I might never have gotten the role in 'Full metal jacket'. Thanks, Val", writes Modine.
Filmmaker Michael Mann directed Val Kilmer in "Heat", the classic action film from 1995.
"When I worked with Val on 'Heat', I was always amazed by his breadth, the exceptional versatility in the powerful inner strength and expressive character. This is an extremely sad message after all the years Val fought against the disease, but still kept his spirits up", says Mann in a statement on Instagram.
Actor Josh Brolin, known among other things for the role as Thanos in the Marvel films, had known Val Kilmer for a long time.
"See you, buddy! I'll miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, super creative spark plug. There aren't many left like you. Hope to see you up in heaven when I get there", writes Brolin on Instagram.
