In the letter, over 350 actors and directors, many prominent profiles in Hollywood, criticize the situation in Gaza Strip.
"We cannot be silent when a genocide is taking place in Gaza", it states in the letter published in the French newspaper Libération.
The pro-Palestinian protest comes the day before the Cannes film festival takes place. In the letter, the Palestinian journalist and photographer Fatima Hassouna, who was killed in an Israeli air strike against Gaza in April, is praised. A documentary featuring Hassouna in the lead role will be shown at the festival.
In the letter, criticism is also directed at the fact that the Oscar-winning filmmaker Hamdan Ballal was not defended by the American Film Academy after he was attacked by Israeli settlers earlier this year.
Besides the Swedish Guldbagge-winning film director Ruben Östlund, the protest has been signed by, among others, actors Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon.
