Rune had the lead with 2–0 in sets against Nicolas Jarry, but then the Chilean initiated a huge turnaround.
After just over three and a half hours of play, the match was over – and Rune eliminated. Jarry won with 4–6, 4–6, 7–5, 6–3, 6–4.
Earlier on Monday, the ninth-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev also disappeared from the men's singles tournament on the Wimbledon grass. The former world number one was knocked out by Benjamin Bonzi.
7–6, 3–6, 7–6, 6–2 were the Frenchman's winning numbers.
A favorite who, on the other hand, held on was the world number two and title defender Carlos Alcaraz, even if the Spaniard had it far from worry-free against Fabio Fognini. In the end, Alcaraz, who recently won the French Championships, could still defeat the Italian with 3–2 in sets (7–5, 6–7, 7–5, 2–6, 6–1).
