Roy Hodgson left Crystal Palace in February 2024 and has not coached a team since.
He will now lead Bristol City for the rest of the season, after the Championship club recently fired head coach Gerhard Struber.
"I've had good conversations with the management and it's really exciting for me to have the opportunity to help out for the rest of the season," said Hodgson.
Bristol City is in 16th place in the table.
During his long coaching career, Hodgson has led Halmstad and Malmö FF to Swedish Championship gold, and been manager of Fulham, Liverpool and England.
