Sweden will gather and prepare for the World Championship qualifying match against Switzerland on Friday – but question marks surround one of Blågult's defenders.
When Burnley presented their squad for the weekend's Premier League match against Aston Villa, Hjalmar Ekdal was completely absent. The Swedish centre-back, who has played all six league matches from the start at the beginning of the season, was not even on the bench.
According to the newspaper Burnley Express, however, it is not about an injury, which makes Ekdal's absence all the more puzzling.
The question is now whether Ekdal will be available when Sweden takes on Switzerland or if something else is behind the sudden omission.
Burnley lost the match 1–2. Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was substituted in in the 84th minute for Aston Villa.
It was a tough weekend for the Swedish national team players in the Premier League in general. Alexander Isak received harsh criticism after the performance against Chelsea, Gabriel Gudmundsson had a tough match for Leeds in the loss against Tottenham and Viktor Gyökeres once again left the pitch goalless for his Arsenal in the 2–0 win against West Ham.
Anthony Elanga was substituted out in the 70th minute in Newcastle's win at home against his former club Nottingham. Yasin Ayari played the entire match for his Brighton away against Wolverhampton in a match that ended 1–1.
