The House Oversight Committee hearing will be held behind closed doors on Thursday. Hillary Clinton will be questioned in Chappaqua, New York, where she and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, own a home.

Bill Clinton will be questioned in turn on Friday, NBC News reports.

The questioning is being recorded on video but is not intended to be made public.

Calls on Trump

Hillary Clinton released her opening statement to the committee, in which she said she believed that Trump's close contacts with Epstein warranted a committee hearing.

The Republican-led committee has been demanding for months that the Clintons be questioned about their dealings with Epstein, even accusing them of contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena.

Both Hillary and Bill Clinton have denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein and have not been charged with any crimes.

Open hearing

The couple, in turn, have offered to be questioned in a public committee hearing or to answer questions in writing. In an interview with the BBC, Hillary Clinton claimed that the committee chairman, Republican James Comer of Kentucky, is exploiting the Epstein scandal politically.

"Other witnesses have been asked to testify. They have given written answers under oath. Why do they want to drag us into this? To take the focus off President Donald Trump," Clinton replied rhetorically in an interview with the BBC last week.
