All electricity grid companies must by 31 December 2026 have introduced power tariffs – a fee that should take into account how customers, households and companies, use their electricity.
High electricity consumption during a short period, i.e. when many electrical appliances are running at the same time, will become more expensive. The idea from the legislator is to spread out electricity consumption over the day, which reduces the load.
Several electricity grid companies have already switched to power tariffs. Among the large ones, Ellevio was the first at the turn of the year. Now Vattenfall is also starting to move. Initially, only 2,000 customers will become a kind of test pilots. Thereafter, towards the autumn of 2026, the large customer groups will be connected.
The fee should be based on a fixed fee, a variable transmission fee and a variable power tariff that should be based on an average of the five highest power peaks during a month during the winter season.
However, the electricity grid companies may not, solely due to the transition to power tariffs, charge higher fees for the entire customer collective.
