A badly injured sheep was found in January near an agricultural high school in Värmland. It turned out that a student had almost slit the sheep's throat – and hidden the axe in the student dormitory. Now he is being sentenced, reports Värmlands Folkblad.

The 18-year-old man denies any wrongdoing, but could not explain why a knife and an axe found in his room in the student dormitory carried DNA traces from the sheep.

Despite being so seriously injured, the sheep was still alive when it was found, twelve hours after the incident. The sheep was later forced to be euthanized.

“It is difficult to imagine greater and more prolonged suffering than the ram was subjected to,” said the court president when the verdict was announced, according to VF.

The 18-year-old is sentenced to juvenile detention for aggravated animal cruelty.
