The promised high pressure of the Walpurgis weekend may entice many to get outside, but it is important to ensure that May fires do not spread.
On Walpurgis Eve, the risk of forest fires is high in southern and eastern Götaland and southeastern Svealand, as well as on Öland and Gotland. In western Svealand and in snow-free coastal and inland parts of Norrland, the risk of grass fires is high or very high.
The fire risk is expected to be even greater on May 1. Throughout the country, except for the mountainous regions and the westernmost parts of Götaland, there is a high or very high risk of forest or grass fires.
The risk of forest and grass fires is often greatest in spring, when there has been dry weather for longer periods, according to SMHI.
