High avalanche danger corresponds to four on a five-point scale. The agency warns of “very dangerous conditions” and expects “very large avalanches” in the Kebnekaise Mountains.
Earlier in March, a woman was buried for up to ten minutes after being swept away in an avalanche on Kebnekaise.
In Abisko/Riksgränsfjällen, the danger is assessed as significant, three on the scale. As recently as Wednesday, five people were swept away in an avalanche there, one of whom was seriously injured.
In the rest of the mountain areas, the danger is assessed as moderate, two on the scale.
