The purpose of last year's drone attack on Benjamin Netanyahu's summer residence was to kill the Israeli prime minister, claims Hizbollah's leader Naim Qassem.

In an interview with the Lebanese Shia militia's own TV station, Qassem calls the attack an "intelligence success".

The attack on Netanyahu's residence in Caesarea (Qesarya) occurred in October 2024. The drone hit a bedroom window and caused minor damage. The prime minister was not in the residence, however.

In the interview, Qassem also claims that the movement has the right to keep its weapons "to protect the homeland" and be ready to meet Israeli aggression. In August, the Lebanese government – after pressure from the US – gave the military an order to come up with a plan to disarm Hizbollah before the end of the year.

Israel and Hizbollah entered a ceasefire in November last year, but Israel has continued to repeatedly bomb targets in Lebanon.
